Facebook and Privacy..
Only after reading this article by Bruce Schneier about Privacy Salience: http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2009/jul/15/privacy-internet-facebook did i realise how much personal information i have released unknowingly through facebook!
Pictures, videos and status updates aside, I have done many innocuous looking quizzes on facebook and never really realise could be used against me. It never occurred to me that the moderator had access to my answers and thus knows what i have been doing or have done!
A simple quiz about ” How ethical you are” might just be an attempt by the school to find out whether you have cheated in an exam before. A quiz about where you shop and how often might be an attempt by businesses to gather research about their customers. Worst, a quiz about ” What you like in a guy” might be a mini-research by some sleazy pervert to find out how to pick up young girls.
Just the thought of how much personal information i have released through these quizzes makes my stomach twist. I am definitely thinking twice before doing a ”How good are you in bed” quiz again!
